Eurotrip 2009

We're off to germany at 13th of january, and stayed there for 2 nights. It was a transit city, so we don't have not much to do there other than just touring the city's attractions. The best place we went was the olympic park area. The BMW world and museum are located there, and the highest point in munich was there too, at the olympic tower. Another memorable place was the Dachau concentration camp 20 minutes outside munich city centre.
We learned many things there especially about the hatred human beings have towards others. The people in munich was also nice. Out of the 6 of the germans I asked for directions, only 1 of them explained in german, the others speak english quite well.
Next we're off to amsterdam via bus. We took an overnight trip that lasted around 14 hours. We took the bus as it was the cheapest way of getting around cities in europe. Also there were dicounts for early bookings. As we reached amsterdam around 6 am, the city was quiet like a ghost town. We were suprised that our hostel was located inside the city's infamous red light district. There were porno shops, erotic cinemas everywhere. And the irony of this part is, there's a church at the middle of the district. We stayed at amsterdam for 5 days, the longest part of our eurotrip.

Most of us set a 20 euro limit a day spending, so most of the things we did in a day was planned thoroughly. The best experience I had in amsterdam was bumping into Rihanna and Chris Brown at the red light district one night we were walking around there. We were walking in opposite directions so we didn't have the time to take pictures or ask for autographs. I first didn't believe my eyes before I noticed she was walking with Chris Brown, and 2 bodyguards accompanying them. There were so many things we did in amsterdam that I couldn't mention in this blog. But to me, every medical students who are studying in europe must indulge in certain chemicals so that he or she could consult his or her patients better. You know what I mean, :).

Next destination was paris. We were supposed to spend 3 nights in paris but only spent 2 nights as we did mistakes in booking our hostel. But it was all the time we needed to explore paris perfectly and spending a day at disneyland the next day. As you all know the city of love was the best sightseeing we had from the eurotrip. The architecture, the language, all I could say was they have the best location for lovers to spend the most romantic day or night of their lives. We went to the top of the eiffel tower and as it was winter, everything was pretty invisible as it was covered by a cloud of fog. The next day at disneyland, it rained the whole day. We never thought of enjoying the rides in rain, as commercials about disneyland never depicts rainy situations in disneyland.

But, as it was the only time we had, we decided to just get on with it. We tried nearly all the rides, and the best experience I had, was probably the roller coaster ride called Rock n Roll. The lame it's a small world ride also wasn't missed, as it is the symbol of disneyland. I think, :).

The last destination was vienna, austria. The best thing in vienna was the whole 2 days we spent sightseeing there were clear blue skies. It was definitely a perfect winter trip for any tourist to visit vienna. We wondered why it wasn't like this back in disneyland, but I thought every situation had its check and balance. The austrian people was also quite nice. We met a women in austria who willingly guided us to one of the attractions in vienna. Our hostel was also the best out of the other 3.

Seriously I recommend to others who are touring europe, book the Meininger hotel if you plan to go to germany or austria. The cost and quality really worth it. The best place we visited in vienna was the Schonnbrun palace. It has one of the highest point in vienna where you can see the whole of the city. The vienna natural history museum was also a quite interesting place to visit as it is one of the oldest natural history museum in the world.
So that's all folks. The whole 13 days of our eurotrip. The best lesson I had from this eurotrip is the appreciation of other people's history, culture and language. Like the dutch for example, amsterdam didn't have its special status about drugs and sex simply just to have its own identity. But, it earned it through years of open mindedness, and solving problems in their own way. That's all that I wanted to write about. Thank you for reading!

Some views about life itself

About a month ago, I downloaded the whole six feet under tv series, and watched all of it within a week. A friend of mine recommended it to me, because of the series' uncommon theme which was mainly about death, cool huh? The series were about a family living in a funeral home, and dealing about other people's death. The part which I would like to emphasize about the series is the end part of the series finale, which was entitled "everyone's waiting".
The end part of the finale was about the family's youngest, Claire Fisher who was saying goodbye to everyone in her family, before driving to her new place of work in new york. It was quite a sad scene, because her brother, Nate Fisher died a few days ago, and everyone was saying goodbye as though as it will be their last. Towards the end of the episode, when she was driving, flashes of how the family members die were shown. The mother, Ruth Fisher dies in 2025, her brother David Fisher dies in 2044, and lastly her turn in 2085. To better understand what I'm telling here is you better watch the episode yourself, it's really touching and quite nostalgic for someone who had death in their family before.
Before watching the series, I always had the same idea about death. When people die, they are heading to someplace different. To devout people, maybe to somewhere where all of our sins and deeds will be judged, or much more simpler the experience of death is like pulling the tv plug especially for atheists. I'm writing this post in a neutral point of view not leaning to any religion or belief, so that it can be understood more clearly by everyone. After watching the finale, especially the end part, it became clear to me that everyone in this world is simply waiting the time of their death. What we're having now is like snapshots saved in a memory card, that will be inevitably be broken or discarded someday.
So does this mean that our lives are pointless? Meaningless? Hmmm, thinking about this it sure sounds pointless when everything we own, love, will surely someday wither in time. But if we have a religion it will sure sound good to hear about the rewards we'll be earning for doing good. But writing from a neutral point of view, try to imagine if there will be no rewards. Simply when we die, we will forever vanish in time, and can never have sentient thoughts. All that is left, is what is left by us to this world.
Complicated thoughts huh? To me, not one human can accept the fact that one day, he will die. It will be a frightening experience for anybody, especially the ones who are dying at an early age. That's why, the role of faith comes to play. Faith will simply answer the question for us. Imagine explaining the emptiness of death to a four year old. That kid will never understand the idea of being in nothingness.
Faith is like, the human state of mind which gives us hope and motivation to carry out our lives. Forget about the bullshitty ways of someone without faith living their lives for nothing. Try imagining something that you can achieve only by living your live accordingly to the faith.
Hmmm, in conclusion, it is really clear that death is the definite fullstop of our life. It comes unpredictably, and somehow faith does the best job of explaining its consequences.

A new turning in point in my life as the 4th year starts
Wow, 3 years to go from now until I graduate. Life is simply getting shorter and shorter. Each day we get closer to our goal, and yet it all seems unnoticeable. I wonder in 10 years from now, if all in the past was like 3 days ago. Well, let’s enjoy our life as long as we have the opportunity.
So, this is my first post for the past 3 months. Sorry that I can’t keep up with weekly updates, as I spent most of my time doing my practical back in my hometown, and as usual the burdening registration system of my academic institution. Now, I would like to write my thoughts about things happening in the world. As you all know, the worlds is leading into an unstable phase, as global market plunges into an incapacitating state, unpredictable disasters shock us and take lives by the thousands, we humans stand helpless as all of these things happen beyond our control. It’s like a Malay saying I’ve always known, like to hit the stairs upon falling down. What I’m trying to emphasize here is, how vulnerable we are to these forces of nature, and how little we can do to prevent it from happening.
These disasters happen to us as though that some force in the universe, is signalling to us that they have more power over us, and they can bring us to our knees in an instant. I don’t know about you but, obviously this force that controls us by fear is god himself. God acts in a neutral mysterious way, concealing his true self and just drop the bomb to us to remind us of our timidity, bringing clear message to all the believers in the world about his supremacy. Thank god, he does it this way, imagine if he reveals us about the one true religion, all the other nonbelievers would probably be in shock all this time they were worshipping the wrong god. And imagine if god speaks in one language of the world, it would probably be bias to only the language speakers. So my point in writing this sort of like a controversial topic is, although we all are divided into different races and religions, god gives us a chance to act good in the world without us being pressured to about who is right and wrong. Every human being has his own right to believe what is good for him, and not to act unwillingly as though as he was programmed to. After all we are human beings, blessed with the wonderful miracle of free will.
So next time, when you see some religious group performing something weird like worshipping the wall, or chanting the name of some animal, don’t judge them because of what they do. Respect their free will to follow the teachings of their religion. And if you see somebody who doesn’t believe in anything, let them be. God would have wanted someone to keep questioning about his existence and one day proving them all wrong. (He enjoys seeing the looks on their faces) So, that’s all for this post. Happy Ramadan month for the Muslims!

Perhentian Trip 2008
We went to the Kuala Besut jetty by car. We were off around 12 midnight from KL, and arrived around 7 am.
Upon reaching the island by boat, we checked into our chalet rooms at the Coral View resort, then we went straight fishing on a fisherman boat after that fisherman agreed for a lower price for about RM500, from 10 am till 4 pm.
From our fruitful trip, we managed to catch about a quarter of the icebox full. Being on the boat with the sun shining directly above our heads, it was surely a tormenting trip but worth the penny spent. Returning to the island, we asked the resort chef to cook for us, for RM15 a dish, using our caught fish. Most of the fish we caught were, Ikan Kerisi, a reddish fish, sort of like a mini ikan merah, and ikan ape entah nama dia, ikan sirip tajam sort of, hehe. I myself managed to catch some buntal fish, but they're poisonous. The unique thing about these buntal fish, if you cut it's belly, it will regenerate itself back in a few days, what a miraculous fish.
At 5 pm, dinner was served. The chef cooked us what we asked him to cook, fish curry, butter fried fish, and the popular ikan tiga rasa. Wow, they were very delicious, I myself recommend you to eat these fish fresh. After filling our stomachs with those ambrosias, we went swimming at the beach. Below are some pictures of my friends and I at the beach, warning most of us were topless when taking these pictures.
After spending some quality time at the beach, we relaxed at our chalet hut, having sisha, compliments to my friend Sheikh who runs business at Bukit Antarabangsa selling sisha.
The next day, we went snorkeling from 10 am till 1 pm. We went to 3 sites around the island, coral view point, turtle point, and shark point. It was my first time snorkeling so it was a magnificent introduction for me to the world of snorkeling. We bought 7 kilos of squid from a fisherman at the end of trip, feeling like our fish stock was running out.
After snorkeling, we asked the chef to cook us fish soup, with deep fried squid, and sotong masak cili api. Wow, they were also very delicious treat for us. The next thing we did, was going around the island to another resort called Tuna Bay. It was an unexpected adventure for us, because we thought it would be easy, haha.
The next day, we checked out at 10 am. Surely, Perhentian island is a must visit spot for any malaysians before going to another island paradise of the world. Anyways, it is also listed one of the worlds top ten best islands, at number 5 if I wasn't mistaken. So, till the next post, tata.
